Why the Royal Albert Hall booking system is unfair.
- You can add concerts to your schedule in advance but not actually get a ticket until some arbitrary booking date.
- When that date arrives you get put in a queue. Your position is random and not related to when you booked.
- There is little opportunity for a second chance. You get the seats you specified or not at all.
- If your connection fails for any reason (mine did) you get put to the back of the queue, losing the (questionable) benefit of having reserved your booking in advance.
- And to add insult to injury, you have to stay in the queue even after it is sold out, to be told you did not succeed. In my case 4 hours waiting on line, to finally be told the seats were not available. Thi is just cruel!
What should happen
- Queue positions should be allocated based on the date and time you first scheduled.
- There should be an option to specify second and third choices if you preferred option is sold out by the time you get to the head of the queue.
- Since you have already provided your payment details, you should not be forced to hang around and depend on maintaining a connection on the booking day in order to succeed. Advice by email of the success or failure of your booking would be better, along with the option of checking on the site itself for status of your booking request.
