Today
Today is not an ordinary day
Today you will not come
Today you will lie trapped
by bugs and broken bones.
An ordinary day would carry
me through with anticipation
that come the evening light
a magic click as latch escapes from striker
would make our house a home.
Today is not like that.
Today, an empty friendlessness
engulfs our erstwhile home.
Tomorrow will be like today
Tomorrow won’t be ordinary either.
Time will heal, they say.
But I say NO,
Time will just make this ordinary.
How sad, how sad,
and yet,
How extraordinary
will be the day
when at last you do come
home.
