Holiday Love

When meetings, met in summer’s sullen gaze
Break through the abject blindness of my days
Forgotten flints are in that moment clutched
To light a spark in tinder long untouched.
In bursts and flurries racing through my soul
A raging fire ere long engulfs me whole.

Devouring reason, filling up my heart
But all too soon my love you must depart.
The fire was lit, the embers glow here still
And shall forever if it be my will.

But here, without the fuel of your being
My love weeps tears, no hopeful future seeing.
And will my tears this fire fin’lly vanquish
And, in despair, shall I your love relinquish?

And if our paths should ever cross again
Will love, lived once, be lived once more in vain?
